Thought I would find a better place...
Save Our Sands has it's own Campaign Song
'Purple Orchids' is written and sung by Would Robots. As reflected in his lyrics, lead singer Andy Phillips has a deep personal connection to Saunton and Braunton Burrows. The song is a passionate expression of love for the areas beauty, and it's healing nature.
We are honoured to have this as our campaign song.

Save Our Sands
We are a pro-renewables campaign group set up to oppose the White Cross floating offshore windfarm cable route.
We are not against the windfarm, or the cable, just the onshore route.
We also believe there should be one route to shore, and a strategic approach by Government for infrastructure projects to connect to the National Grid.
(Click on SEAS link below for more info)
SOS is mainly based on Facebook. Please come and join us on the link above. If that's not your thing, then have a rummage around on here.
We hope you find it enlightening.

Our Mission
Is to protect Saunton Beach, Braunton Burrows and Marshes and to save this highly designated area from being industrialised.
Why does this matter?
We do not believe this 'stepping stone' project to test and demonstrate Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW) in the Celtic Sea, should come ashore in such a highly designated area (see Alphabet soup for how protected it's meant to be).
The UK is renowned for the stature of it's mechanisms and rule of law. If this is allowed to happen here, then where in the world would be safe from exploitation by offshore windfarm developers needing to connect to the electricity grid?
Has Floatation Energy, the company behind the proposal, chosen this location precisely because it's so highly designated?
As far fetched as this theory may seem we have yet to meet anyone who finds it beyond belief.
We believe if this can be done here it can be done anywhere.

Saunton Sands
Did North Devon Council have a
'Momentary Lapse of Reason' when they approved the White Cross onshore cable route, we wondered?
6.30am Saunton Car Park - 18 Volunteers assembled for a safety brief before embarking on a military manoeuvre to rival the NATO exercises going on at the other end of the beach.
Our budget wouldn't quite stretch to that of the original Pink Floyd album cover we were paying homage to, shot at Saunton almost 48 years ago, but we made the best of it and got some great shots. Spirits were high, despite the strong winds and incoming rain, and by 8am Liz Seymour, the photographer, had got her great photos.
Then we created an additional re-working of the idea - laying the beds out towards the sea, to illustrate the cable route - and did a short Facebook live stream to include those who were tucked up cosy sat watching at home.
The rain beating down on us, we were off and away by 8.15am leaving the beach for other users to enjoy.
All the beds have been donated to Forces Support military charity shop in Green Lanes Shopping Centre, Barnstaple.
This stunt was made possible by the generosity & financial support of SOS Facebook members. Legends! I think they'll agree it was money well spent. Christie's Estates, The Tamlyns (Saunton Beach Car Park) and the MOD were all very accomodating for which we are grateful.
BBC Radio Devon & regional TV programme 'Spotlight' covered the shenanigans, and 4 days later we made the front pages of both local newspapers. #LapseOfReason#CableChaos

SOS Facebook group also has TV and Radio links and a great reel which captures the spirit and enthusiasm of the day.

Offshore4Sure
Offshore4Sure is about the idea of an offshore electricity grid, connecting offshore windfarms, with one route to shore to a brownfield site, to minimise the environmental impact. We like the concept and agree with it!
